About Calmness

Calmness portrays an empty boat in what seems like the dusk of the daylight just minutes before it all gets dark. The still water in what seems like a sea is more of an embodiment of a feeling than the actual natural body of water. The whole composition works together in order to make one feel calm and serene, in peace with oneself. The work is like meditation, making the viewer travel to the set scene and feel the tranquility of the portrayed moment.

Raimonda Kasparaviciene

Raimonda Jatkeviciute – Kasparaviciene was born in 1959, Kaunas, Lithuania. In 1984 she graduated from Vilnius Academy of Arts with specialization in ceramics. Nowadays, the professional ceramics artist has broadened her art horizons, so she is also notable for her paintings. Those artistic disciplines are closely related and interconnected with each other. Yet, the artist is mostly famous for her paintings. The artworks of R. Jatkeviciute – Kasparaviciene could be attributed to Poetic Realism. Her paintings stand out for their clean, purified aesthetics, the precision of the drawing; on the other hand, almost hyperrealistic artworks are full of warmth, peace and sensation of silence.

The artist highlights that she usually paints by looking at the photographs, which she takes during her travels. These documentations are enriched with profound feelings and contemplative ideas. Therefore, the artist creates series of artworks, where she is exploring the same subject from different points of view. This principle of creation is closely related to the 19th century art movement – impressionism. Similarly to impressionists, R. Jatkeviciute – Kasparaviciene is inclined to study the same object at different times of the day, often accentuating the visual effects of the passage of time. Not only the principle of imaging relates this Lithuanian artist to impressionists, the painting technique have similarities as well. The represented objects are painted by small, thin and playful brush strokes that give the vitality to compositions as well as the effect of lyrism and capturing the very fragile moment of the present.
