About An Ant in the Rain

An Ant in the Rain continues the artist‘s surrealism-inspired artwork series with two main subjects – the nature and the ant and symbolically becomes a sequel of another artwork An Ant in the Sunlight. It showcases the artist‘s incomprehensible obsession with these insects and their frequent appearance on the canvas. It combines a spectacular, monumental composition, striking realism and the mystery created by the contrast of darkness and light – another very essential attribute of Inga Noir’s paintings.

Inga Noir

Inga Noir Mrazauskaite was born in 1986, in Vilnius, Lithuania. In 2011, she got a master‘s degree at Vilnius Academy of Arts. In the background of Lithuanian art, Mrazauskaite stands out for minimalistic canvases, where archetypical symbols interconnect with the representation of cosmic energy.

One of the most important characteristics of Mrazauskaite art is a strong connection with Lithuanian folk culture. Almost every object in her canvases has hints of traditional linen patterns. Ornaments fall into pieces in fantastic still lifes, the textile is transformed into architecture, or is part of nature and universe. These details have symbolic meaning and are closely related to the personal artist‘s experience, her early memories from childhood. Moreover, the rhythm of repetitive motifs has a meditative impact on the spectator.

Another notable motive, closely related to surrealism, is the image of ants. These tiny and snoopy insects appear in almost every artwork of Mrazauskaite. They tickle nerves and give the sensation of tension. Not only for ants images, but also for other artistic qualities, the art of Mrazauskaite can be paralleled to surrealism. Her canvases are painted with photographic precision. There are lots of illogical scenes and unexpected juxtapositions. The artist likes to deform shapes in a bizarre way.

The art of Mrazauskaite reflects a profound interest in outer space. On the one hand, she has a strong mythological worldview and believes in the powers of nature. On the other hand, she is rational and understands the darkness as the lack of light. The main characters in her art are light and shadows, appearing in different forms. Despite giving attention to the dark, canvases are far away from the gloomy mood. Focused light and playing with color balance gives a better focus on fantastic compositions.

Inga shares her unique attitude towards the world. One of the artist‘s aims is to involve the spectator in a more deep dialogue with the art piece.
